Week 51 Results

Hey Club Members!

Well, looks like we're almost done for the year. Our final running week is underway (Monday-Friday, December 27-31) so you have just a few more days to get your miles in. I'll start a Post 'Em thread on Friday and you'll have until Wednesday, January 5, 2011 to get your final posts in.

I will post a regular Weekly Results thread for Week 52, as usual, but will also post a "Year In Review" thread about a week later. Lots of numbers to crunch, so it will take a little while to get 'em all in. But, it should be really interesting for you number geeks (like me).

Y'all have a Happy New Year and stay safe.

Week 47 Results

Week 47 Results have been posted and a link is available (on the right).

The finals of the Head2Head matchups will begin in Week 49 (December 6-12) between Kiss My Asics and Tramps Like Us. Both teams have done extremely well during the year, finishing 1-2 in the regular season. I expect the finals to go all the way with some crazy miles being logged.

Remember, registration for the 2011in2011 Club ends December 17th, so if you want to come back next year, go to the Beginner's Forum and register (the registration thread is stickied so you won't miss it).

Take Care,
-Glenn

Plucked Once Too Many Times

As you all are quite aware, Runner's World has upgraded the forum software (Pluck 4.0). This affects me greatly as the 2010in2010 Club Administrator, as I rely heavily on the forums to gather and publish the members' running data.

While there are a few new features, there are some significant losses in functionality and performance. Key among these is having lost the ability to track key threads for this Club, especially those like the "Nag List" that I recycle and the Weekly Post 'Em threads. I also try to follow the team threads and stay up-to-date on any problems or questions you all have. There are also contest threads and some of last year's Club threads that I reference as well. I probably had over 30 threads saved that are now inaccessible.

Additionally, I am finding it cumbersome to use the "Reply" and "Start a New Discussion" functions there since the input forms are all bungled up (see my reply to Kevin in the RW.com forum).

The bottom line is this: If these issues are not resolved in one week (which was Kevin Knabe's suggestion for the length of time that we allow to get used to the upgrade), I will be leaving the RWOL forums and will be resigning my role as 2010in2010 Club Admin.

If anyone has suggestions on how we can continue the Club outside this forum, I will be more than happy to investigate them. I will update the 2010in2010 Blog with as much information as possible for your use. [An aside: I am looking at the possibility of porting the entire Club - including posting miles and reporting all results - RIGHT HERE IN THE BLOG].

I hope I don't have to leave, but life is too short to be dealing with this. I am really proud of what the Club has become and am glad that it has been a source of inspiration and camaraderie for you all.

With Regards,

Glenn

Week 34 Results

Hey Club! Latest Individual and Head2Head results have been posted; see the link on the right. We're making really good progress and are continuing to reduce our mileage deficit as a Club (just over 7,100 miles right now). We're getting close to recording 150,000 miles, too! We're getting very close to seeing our first batch of members reach their annual goals already. I think a couple of them will hit it next week, maybe three. Y'all keep your eyes open and be sure to congratulate them! Take Care, Glenn

Week 31 Results

Another very good week for the Club! We reduced our mileage deficit again and looks like race training - plus bleedover from the August Miles Challenge - has picked up our weekly average again. Two more Head2Head shockers this week. Tortoises and Hares recorded yet another win and without 100% posting. That's three in a row for them. Outrunning Insanity defeated Tramps Like Us in a clear upset. If TLU had reached 100% posting, they would have won the match. Still, got to give credit to the victors here; they had a very good week. Take Care, Glenn

Week 30 Results

Hey Club Members! What a week we had! The top two teams faced off and had some outstanding numbers. For the first time, Tramps Like Us had their 27-match streak snapped by Kiss My Asics. KMA recorded a high-mileage week as a team in doing so and also hit 100% posting, which was necessary for the win. Props to both teams for an amazing matchup. The members-only contest is closed. Only 56 members submitted entries - less than a third of all members. I'm kind of surprised, especially since we have some great prizes to award the winners. But, Good Luck to those of you who entered! Y'all take care, -Glenn

Week 29 Results - Member Contest update

Hey Club Members! Week 29 Results are now available (see the link to the right). We lost a member last week and have two more at risk of being dropped. :-( The members-only contest is still open for entries but the deadline is fast-approaching! Basically, you just need to guess the total number of miles that all the remaining members of the 2010in2010 Club will record through Week 52. The deadline is 5:00PM Central Daylight Time (-5 hours GMT) on Saturday, July 31st. The winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to either Fleet Feet, Running Warehouse or Sports Authority. The runner-up will receive a $25 gift certificate to any of these retailers also. Check the link to the right of this page for all the rules and details. Good Luck! -Glenn

Hey Club Members! Week 28 Results are now available (see the link to the right). We're continuing to build mileage and have had a few more members come off Injured Reserve. I announced a new members-only contest last week and you still have time to submit your entries. Week 27 Results - New Contest for Club Members!

Hey! Results for Week 27 are posted; see the new link to the right. Pretty good week overall for the Club. We've bumped up the mileage average a bit. I'll be announcing a new contest for Club members on the RWOL Beginner's forum in the next day or so. You'll have about three weeks to register and participate. In order to win, you will have to be a member of the Club at the end of the year (includes members on Injured Reserve or similar leave).

Week 25 - All-Star Week Results

Well, what an amazing week for the 2010in2010 Club! There's so many cool things to talk about, but I'll just say that you should view the Week 25 Results (see link on right) and take a look for yourself! Team Castor won the matchup against Team Pollux by a score of 1405.35 to 1181.46. The four teams represented by Team Castor will each receive a 5% scoring bonus that they may use any time later this year, including the Playoffs. Ironically, if the Playoffs were held today, those teams would all face each other, making for interesting strategy scenarios! Six members broke the century mark: Battman (152.4 miles), MothAudio (140), MizunoMan (121), nosaint (112), Bob! (103), and bhbrtn (100.4). The 32 All-Stars recorded an average of 73.49 miles. 18 All-Stars recorded high-mileage totals for the year. The Club average per member was more than 26 miles each, two miles higher than our previous high. The Club actually reduced its mileage deficit as a result. Overall, a great week for everyone. I think we'll do this again next year with a few minor changes (one of which may be a calendar change). Y'all have a great week! -Glenn

The winning All-Star team will give their four representative teams a 5% bonus that can be used in any Head2Head matchup later in the year - including the Playoffs! Week 18 Results

Hi Club Members, Week 18 results have been posted (link on the right). We're REALLY in a doldrums period now with post-race recovery and tapering going on simultaneously as the racing season winds up in May and early June. We're at a Club low for per-member average. I sent emails to several Club members who may want to consider revising their goals (either because they are well-above or behind their pace). If anyone wants to change their goal, they may do so ONE TIME by June 30. If you would like analysis or assistance, let me know. NOTE: I'm still having server issues with Blogger and can't get the Detailed Posts updated. Will try again as soon as I can. Y'all have a great week! -Glenn

Week 16 Results

Hey Club Members! We've kinda fallen back a bit. On-time posts dropped some more; we lost a member; a few more members had to take a leave. Guess the rest of us will have to kick it in a bit! I know of one member, Brian J, who ran Boston last Monday and wanted to congratulate him on that accomplishment. He had a tough race, but I know he's ready to go back in 2011. Rach^ got an early admission to Basic Training in the Air Force and will be out of pocket for a couple of months. We wish her well! Dutchie61, team captain for Tortoises and Hares, had to have unplanned surgery to repair a detached retina and will be out for at least three weeks. Get well soon! This calendar week (Week 17, April 26 - May 2) is a Position Round in the Head2Head matchups. Y'all have a great week..and make sure to keep those laces tight!

Week 6 Results and New Policy

Hey 2010in2010 Club Members, Week 6 results have been posted and there is a link on the right that will direct you to them at RWOL. Also, the Summary Results table is now available below. I will also try to post the individual weekly posting table if Blogger can handle it (gets pretty big). Be sure to contact me or your team captain directly if you have any issues posting or have to take a leave (ex. Injured Reserve, vacation, military). New Policy regarding late posters

After discussion with the Team Captains, we have decided to enact a new policy regarding members who post late. Here is the policy:

  • Members who post late four (4) or more times during the year may be removed from their team by majority vote of team members.
  • The Club Admin will notify the team captain of any member having four or more late posts. The team captain may then ask for a vote from all team members. For proper validation, all votes must be submitted to the Club Admin through PMs or emails. All members, including those on IR or leave of absence, will be allowed to vote.
  • Regardless of the time required, once a simple majority of votes is reached - either for retention or removal - the Club Admin will announce the end of voting and notify all parties as to the result.
  • If a team votes to remove a member, the member shall remain in the Club as an individual participant. If a team votes to retain a member, the member shall remain in good standing and shall not be subject to additional votes unless they record another late post.
Similarly, a Club Member may ask to withdraw from a team and become an individual participant for the remainder of the season. Y'all have a Great Week! -Glenn

Head2Head Challenge

The Head2Head challenge is a friendly competition of teams formed from those 20010in2010 Club members who want to participate. The idea is to give you some additional support from your fellow Club Members (as teammates) and to provide another incentive to post in a timely manner. Eight (8) teams were formed initially with twenty-seven (27) members each and with approximately the same total goal mileage per team (which at the start of the year was an average of 34410 miles). Each week, teams will compete head-to-head in a round-robin format. I will record wins & losses for each team and records will be posted in the results thread following the week's matchup. Each team should select a captain to track down non-posters in the results thread. At the start of the year, we will score only the top 75% of posters (21 out of 27, rounded up) for each team. However, if ALL team members post by the weekly deadline (12:00 Noon Central Time on Wednesdays), the team will receive a 10% bonus in scoring. In this case, even if a runner posts “zero” miles, they benefit the entire team! Unlike the Miles&Miles game, new members will not be added to teams as runners are lost. Since it is likely we will lose runners during the year, the following rules will be applied: 1) The top 75% of runners – rounded up - will be counted towards the team score. This cutoff number is based on the number of team members of the smallest team. For example: if the smallest team has 20 members, the scoring cutoff is 15; if later on, the smallest team has 14 members, the cutoff is 11. 2) If the smallest team has half or less the number of members of the largest team, it will be immediately disbanded and members distributed to the remaining teams in such a manner as to best maintain parity among teams (i.e., number of members per team and average goal mileage per member). 3) There will be no trades of team members after the start of the 2010in2010 Club.Hopefully this game will create more of a reason to keep up running and posting. The Game Plan There will be a regular season consisting of the first 40 weeks of the year and a playoff bracket for the final 12 weeks. Over the course of the regular season a single team will face the other 7 teams at least 5 times and every 8th week there will be a "Position Round" (like in bowling leagues). After the regular season, teams will be seeded into an 8-team single elimination bracket based on their regular season record. If there is a tie, the team with the highest cumulative point total will be seeded higher. Each series will be played out as a "best of 3" over a three-week period until a champion is declared at the end of Week 52 (or Week 51 in the event of a 2 game sweep).
